IC
Ion Chromatography (IC)
(IC) Ion chromatography is one of new HPLC method to detect ionic content. When the liquid (with ions dissolved) is pumped into a separation column, attributed to the different exchange rates between the ions and the column, different ions will be separated and be detected by a conductivity detector. IC can be used to analyze regular anions, cations and organic acid or base.
IC Technical Capabilities
- Signal Detected: Ions
- Elements Detected: anions (F-、Cl-、Br-、NO2-、NO3-、SO42-、PO43-)
- Cations (Li+、Na+、NH4+、K+、Mg2+、Ca2+)
- Detection Limits: ug/L~mg/L, uppermost: 10-12g/L
Applications for IC Analysis
- Ion measurement in liquids (rain water, tap water, DI water, beverage, cooling water, detergent, plating solutions etc.)
- Ion analysis on material surface
- Ion analysis of chemical products (extractions, polymers, cosmetics etc.)
- Ion analysis of gas
- Ion analysis of soil/fertilizer
Relevant Industries for IC Analysis
- Electronics/Semiconductors
- Metal/steel
- Environment/environment protection
- Pharmacy/ iatrology
- Food/beverage
- City water supplying/sewage disposal
- Chemical products/cosmetics
- Agriculture
- Paper making/pulp
Strengths
- Fast
- High sensitivity
- Good selectivity
- Can analyze much different ions at one time
- Good stability and large capacities of the separate column
Limitations
- IC can measure only a few ions
- Samples with high polarity can not be analyzed by IC
